August is the last full month of the minor league season, and here’s how it began: Nashville 4, Las Vegas 0Giancarlo Alvarado took his first loss of the season after giving up 1 run in 61 innings.  Jack Leathersich allowed 3 unearned runs.  The 51s managed just 4 singles. Altoona 2, Binghamton 1 (13 innings)Erik Goeddel allowed 1 unearned run on 3 hits over 6.1 innings, striking out 5.  Chasen Bradford threw 1.2 scoreless innings and Chase Huchingson threw 2 scoreless innings, but after 2 scoreless innings of his own, Adam Kolarek let up the game-winning run in the 13th.  Travis d’Arnaud was 1 for 5 with a walk and 2 strikeouts, but he caught all 13 innings.  Rhyne Hughes, Travis Taijeron, and Wilfredo Tovar had 2 hits each.  The only extra-base hit for the B-Mets was a double by Goeddel.  Cesar Puello had the day off. St. Lucie 10, Tampa 4The Lucies put up 8 runs in the first 2 innings to cruise to a win.  Jon Niese made a rehab start, pitching 4 shutout innings.  He faced 1 over the minimum, allowing 2 hits and 1 walk, striking out 4.  Hansel Robles gave up 4 runs (2 earned) on 6 hits over 4 innings, walking none and striking out 4.  Lucas Duda was also rehabbing and went 2 for 5 with a double, RBI, and 3 strikeouts.  Dustin Lawley homered twice and drove in 5 runs.  T.J. Rivera was 4 for 4 with a walk and 2 runs scored.  Matt Reynolds drove in 2 runs. Savannah 4, Greenville 3Marcos Camarena was solid, allowing just 2 runs in 5.1 innings.  Paul Sewald and Beck Wheeler each threw a scoreless inning, with Sewald getting the win and Wheeler the save.  Maikis De La Cruz was 2 for 4 with a 2-run homer.  Brandon Nimmo was 1 for 4 with a walk and strikeout. Brooklyn 9, Williamsport 4Robert Gsellman went 6 innings, giving up 4 runs (3 earned) on 7 hits, striking out 4.  Ricky Knapp struck out 5 and walked 3 in 3 scoreless and hitless innings to get the save.  Jonathan Clark was 2 for 5 with a triple and 3 RBI’s.  L.J. Mazzilli also tripled.  Colton Plaia was 2 for 4 with a double and RBI.  Gavin Cecchini was 1 for 5. Kingsport 6, Johnson City 3Chris Flexen improved to 5-1 on the season after giving up 2 runs on 8 hits over 7 innings.  Champ Stuart, Jeff Diehl, and Zach Mathieu had 2 hits each. GCL Mets 4, GCL Marlins 1Gaby Almonte threw 5 shutout innings, striking out 4.  Brandon Welch followed with 3 scoreless innings.  Wuilmer Becerra was 1 for 3 with a double and 2 RBI’s.
